Rising Prospect: Curtis Ryan Continues Building His Game at Highland High School
Curtis Ryan is a member of the Class of 2027 at Highland High School and is quickly building a name for himself as a dedicated multi-sport student-athlete with a strong future ahead. Since first picking up a basketball at the age of seven, Ryan has developed a deep passion for the game and continues to sharpen his skills through hard work, discipline, and commitment both on and off the court.
As his love for basketball grew, Ryan took the next step in his development by competing in club basketball, where he has continued elevating his game against stronger competition. Known for bringing energy and intensity every time he steps on the floor, Ryan describes himself as someone who motivates his teammates and looks to make winning plays throughout the game.
One of the biggest strengths in Ryan’s game is his ability to shoot the three-ball off the catch. His confidence from beyond the arc has become a reliable weapon for his team, especially in key moments. Along with his perimeter shooting, Ryan prides himself on his basketball IQ and his ability to think ahead, consistently looking to create the next best opportunity for his teammates.
Coach Peter DeBassige of New Mexico Fierce, who nominated Curtis, spoke highly about the young guard’s all-around impact on the floor:
“Curtis is a true court general. He is always looking to get his teammates good looks, but he also knows when it’s time to score. He has a great floater, can finish in the paint, and shoots the three-ball well. He is also a great on-ball defender. Curtis also received a great write-up from Recruit Look in April following an event in Denver.”
Ryan’s production backs up the praise. Ranking among Division 4A athletes in assists, steals, and three-point shooting, he continues proving he can impact the game in multiple ways. His ability to stretch the floor offensively while also defending at a high level has made him an important piece for Highland.
Beyond basketball, Ryan has also showcased his athletic ability on the football field. Playing both wide receiver and running back, he continues to train and compete during the offseason, demonstrating his versatility and competitiveness as an athlete. While football remains a passion, his development and growth on the basketball court continue to stand out as he pushes toward the next level.
With confidence, work ethic, and leadership continuing to grow, Curtis Ryan remains a prospect worth watching in the coming years. As he continues developing throughout his high school career, Next Bench will continue evaluating his progress during the 2026-27 season and beyond as college coaches monitor his growth both during the summer circuit and throughout the high school season.
