Kapri Tice Is Just Getting Started: Building a Path to the Next Level

Athletix August Player of the Month | Kapri Tice

For Kapri Tice, the goal isn’t simply to play flag football.

It’s to keep getting better, keep earning opportunities, and eventually earn the chance to play flag football at the college level.

And while that journey is still in its early stages, Kapri already understands something important: the next level isn’t given to you. You have to work for it.

That mindset is one of the reasons Kapri was selected as the Athletix Player of the Month for August. Kapri is part of the class of 2029.

For Athletix, the Player of the Month recognition is about more than what happens on the field. We look at the complete picture of an athlete—including their commitment to building a recruitment-ready profile, their effort to present themselves professionally, their social media presence, and the support they have built around their journey.

Kapri stood out in each of those areas.

She put in the work to make her Athletix Player Profile recruitment-ready, giving Athletix staff a strong foundation to share her information and promote her to college coaches. That commitment matters because one of the things Athletix looks for when selecting its Player of the Month is whether an athlete is taking ownership of their recruiting journey and putting themselves in a position to be seen by the right people.

Kapri’s social media presence was another area that stood out.

She has been active in building her presence as an athlete and sharing her journey, accomplishments and experiences. In today’s recruiting environment, that visibility can be an important part of how an athlete tells their story and gives coaches and programs another way to discover who they are.

Then there was the community support.

Kapri received five Player of the Month nominations, demonstrating that the people around her are paying attention to the work she is putting in. Those nominations were another indication of the impact she is already having and the support she has built around her athletic journey.

Taken together, those things helped make Kapri stand out.

Her work. Her preparation. Her presence. Her community.

That’s what made her the right choice for the August Athletix Player of the Month.

Kapri’s story in flag football started in a simple way. She would go to the park with her brother and his friends and watch her brother play. She also attended his practices and began developing an interest in the game.

Then, while in middle school, a coach approached her and asked if she wanted to try out for the girls flag football team.

She said yes.

That opportunity changed everything.

“Ever since then, I’ve loved football and really bought into the process,” Kapri said.

What started as an opportunity to try something new quickly became something she genuinely cared about. She found herself enjoying practices, competition and, perhaps most importantly, the bond she developed with her teammates.

Football became more than just a sport.

It became something she was passionate about.

Being in her position is a lot of responsibility.

Kapri Tice brings versatility to the field, with her primary positions being Wide Receiver (WR), Safety, and Defensive Back (DB).

That ability to contribute to both offense and defense is an important part of her development as a flag football player. At wide receiver, Kapri continues working on her hands, route running, ability to make plays while moving, and understanding of offensive situations.

Defensively, her experience at Safety and Defensive Back requires her to read the field, communicate with teammates, recognize what the offense is trying to do, and make quick decisions.

Those responsibilities also connect directly to one of the areas Kapri says has improved the most—her football IQ.

She’s learning to understand the game at a deeper level and make smarter decisions, while becoming more confident in trusting what she sees on the field.

Playing multiple positions also gives Kapri a broader understanding of the game. She’s not simply learning how to make a play; she’s learning how different parts of the field work together.

For a young athlete who is just beginning her recruiting journey, that versatility could become an important part of her continued development.

Primary Positions:
🏈 Wide Receiver (WR)
🛡️ Safety
🛡️ Defensive Back (DB)

As Kapri continues to develop, her goal is to become the most complete player she can be—and ultimately use that versatility to help earn an opportunity to play at the Division I level.

Learning to Become a Better Player

Kapri knows that becoming the athlete she wants to be requires constant improvement.

Recently, one of the biggest areas of growth in her game has been her ability to catch the football consistently, particularly while running. At the same time, she has been developing her football IQ and learning to make smarter decisions on the field.

Her confidence has grown along with those improvements.

That confidence allows her to play faster, trust herself and continue developing her game.

But some of Kapri’s biggest lessons haven’t come from successful plays.

They’ve come from losing.

“Losing has made me stronger because it taught me how to handle disappointment, learn from my mistakes, and keep moving forward,” she explained.

Instead of allowing a loss to define her, Kapri uses it as motivation.

She evaluates what happened, learns from it and gets back to work.

That mentality is becoming an important part of who she is as an athlete.

A Leader Who Wants Her Teammates to Succeed

Ask Kapri what flag football has taught her, and one answer stands out:

Leadership.

Kapri describes herself as a leader, strong and disciplined.

On the field, she’s vocal. She’s not afraid to ask questions, communicate with teammates or help others when they need it.

But her definition of leadership goes beyond simply being the loudest person on the field.

To Kapri, being a good teammate means having your teammates’ backs—even when they make mistakes.

She believes in encouraging others, staying positive and helping teammates maintain their confidence.

It’s a quality that says a lot about the type of player she wants to become.

She doesn’t just want to make plays.

She wants to be someone her teammates can count on.

The Work Nobody Sees

Game days are where athletes get noticed.

But Kapri understands that game days are only a small part of the process.

Behind the plays are the practices, mistakes, pressure, conditioning, early mornings and countless moments when nobody is watching.

Kapri knows that the work she puts in away from the spotlight is what allows her to perform when the spotlight arrives.

Her team typically practices twice a week leading into games, working through stretching, drills, conditioning, offensive plays and defensive assignments.

Tournament preparation requires even more focus.

Routes, flag pulling and defensive responsibilities are reviewed before the team takes the field. And before each game, the team comes together for its chant and huddle before competing.

Kapri embraces that process.

Because she understands where she wants it to lead.

The Recruiting Journey Is Just Beginning

Kapri isn’t pretending that she has already reached the next level.

She’s just getting started.

Her long-term goal is to play flag football at the college level and eventually compete against some of the best athletes in the sport.

More specifically, she has her sights set on Division I.

She wants to be recruited, earn offers and find a college program where she can continue developing as an athlete.

“I’m going to keep pushing myself and working toward playing at the next level,” Kapri said.

That journey will require continued development, exposure and opportunities to get in front of coaches.

Kapri understands the importance of starting that process early.

She believes athletes should build their profiles and tell their stories before they think they absolutely need to.

Starting early gives coaches the opportunity to follow an athlete’s development, watch them improve and understand what they can offer over time.

For Kapri, that means her recruiting journey isn’t something that begins when college coaches come calling.

It’s something she is beginning to build now.

Building More Than an Athletic Resume

Kapri also understands the importance of social media in today’s recruiting landscape.

Highlights, accomplishments and progress can help athletes reach people who might not otherwise have an opportunity to see them play.

But for Kapri, building her athletic profile is about more than simply posting highlights.

It’s about showing coaches who she is, where she is going and how hard she is willing to work to get there.

That’s part of why being featured by Athletix means so much to her.

Kapri said she’s proud to have the opportunity to share her story and have her work featured. She’s also proud of the possibility that younger athletes might see her journey and find someone they can look up to.

That matters to her.

Because ultimately, she wants to be remembered as someone people could count on.

Someone kind, thoughtful, honest and willing to help others.

Someone who made a positive impact.

A Future With Two Big Goals

Kapri’s ambitions extend beyond athletics.

Her athletic dream is to play Division I flag football.

Her academic and career goal is to eventually enter the medical field and become a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA).

Both goals will require discipline, commitment and hard work.

And those are qualities Kapri already believes define her.

She knows neither journey will happen overnight.

But she’s willing to put in the work.

“I play because I want to prove to myself and others that I can do it and that this sport is meant for me,” Kapri said.

That may be the best way to understand where Kapri Tice is right now.

She isn’t finished.

She isn’t at the end of her journey.

She’s building.

She’s learning.

She’s competing.

She’s developing.

And She is on her way to getting her goal of playing and getting the education she desires while using the sport she has become very passionate about to reach the next level.

Just Getting Started

Kapri’s story is still being written.

The Division I offer she’s working toward hasn’t happened yet.

The championships she wants to compete for are still ahead.

The athlete she wants to become is still developing.

And that’s what makes this moment so important.

The Athletix Player of the Month recognition isn’t the conclusion of Kapri’s journey.

It’s another step.

Another opportunity to tell her story.

Another opportunity for coaches, programs and other athletes to discover who she is.

Most importantly, it’s a reminder that the work she is putting in today is connected to the goals she has for tomorrow.

Kapri Tice knows where she wants to go.

Now she’s putting in the work to get there.

She’s not waiting for the next level to find her.

She’s getting herself ready for it.

And this is only the beginning.
